Whether engaged in industrial hedging, physical market trading, or proprietary trading, there are two ways to enter the LME market.
Which approach you take depends on a number of factors, including which level of the market you need to enter, whether your company is self-employed or on-demand, or both, what your regulatory authority is and what capital requirements you can meet.
Many participants entered the LME market as customers of LME members. Non-member customers who want to buy or sell LME contracts can enter the LME market through category 1, 2 and 4 members (and their related independent software vendors). Each category of members provides different levels of trading and clearing services.
Class 1, 2 and 4 members can provide clients with clearing services for exchanges;
A Category 4 member is not a member of LME Clear and will use the services of a Category 1 or 2 member to clear transactions for clients.
