enter the market

Whether engaged in industrial hedging, physical market trading, or proprietary trading, there are two ways to enter the LME market.

  • The first method is to conduct transactions as a customer of such members through members of category 1, 2 or 4.
  • The second method is to become a member of category 1, 2, 3 or 4 yourself.

Which approach you take depends on a number of factors, including which level of the market you need to enter, whether your company is self-employed or on-demand, or both, what your regulatory authority is and what capital requirements you can meet.

Many participants entered the LME market as customers of LME members. Non-member customers who want to buy or sell LME contracts can enter the LME market through category 1, 2 and 4 members (and their related independent software vendors). Each category of members provides different levels of trading and clearing services.

Class 1, 2 and 4 members can provide clients with clearing services for exchanges;

A Category 4 member is not a member of LME Clear and will use the services of a Category 1 or 2 member to clear transactions for clients.

If you are interested in becoming an LME member, please contact us first to explain their requirements.

There are multiple categories of members, each with different functions:

  • Classes 1 and 2-Fully cleared members who can trade on their own and on their behalf
  • Category 3-Individual clearing members who can trade on their own
  • Category 4 — Non-clearing members who can trade on their own and on their behalf but are not LME Clear members and therefore need to use the services of category 1 or 2 members for transaction clearing
  • Category 5 — Customers who participate in the physical market and / or who are members of category 1, 2 or 4 and intend to have a relationship with the LME brand
  • Category 6 — Individual Member
  • Category 7 — Honorary Member
